If you're looking for a career in Culinary Arts I'd say the most important thing to look for in a school is that it has a working dining area, where senior students actually cook and serve like a real restaurant. I'd assume most do, so next would be the school's reputation in that field, and there are always warious ranking agencies and recognitions a school can have (for example, my school's newspaper was a finalist in the national college Pacemaker awards for overall journalism, which is meaningless to anybody outside our field but for an aspiring journalist it gives a good indication of our school's quality in that area).

Did Church fathers and Jesus see the Bible as metaphor?
by leavingwt indoes anyone here believe that jesus viewed genesis as being a metaphor?
if they believed it to be a historical account about real people, what are the implications?
as a jw, i wasn't allowed to publicly entertain such questions.

slimboyfat: I have never heard anyone ever say "in Gulliver's day when he travelled..." People don't talk about fictional stories that way.
But they do, just not in those words:
"This is just like when Neo took the red pill and his eyes were opened."
"After being away at college I agree with Dorothy, 'There's no Place Like Home.'"
Frequently these are brought up (like the old Chris Farley sketch): "Remember when..." even though those in the conversation know that the incident in question was fictional, they never spell it out to the other. Just reading the conversation would you assume they thought it was real?

I Want to Believe
So I sat here waiting for inspiration to hit. What was taking so long? Where was my demon to guide me in automatic writing?
"Here I am," Dave popped into my head suddenly. He was my demon. I found him in a toy I bought at a pawn shop when I was 13. It was a cool toy, a Star Wars action figure, bounty hunter of some sort. Next thing I knew, a demon was living inside me.
"Where were you?" I was upset and wanted him to know it. "It's hard to write freestyle without a demonic force guiding me."
"Yeah, well you keep your mind too cluttered these days. It's hard to get around in there. You should try emptying it out sometime. You ever think of trying some meditation? OOOH, how about yoga?"
I couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing. Maybe I should try yoga; maybe I could get a demon that's more helpful. Why couldn't you give me the powers of prediction instead of this automatic writing nonsense?"
I could feel Dave's hurt feelings. He took control of my fingers and started typing out a random hateful screed, which somehow morphed into a longform poem about flowers. My fingers stopped.
"My heart's not in it today," he said. He was quiet for a while. "Did you know today is my anniversary?"
I shook my head.
"Yeah... 4400 years this afternoon. I often ask myself if she was worth it. She died before the Flood, did I ever tell you that? We never had any kids. But that was it -- never saw Heaven again. Never wanted to. How could I ever see His face again? I mean, what did He expect? And than Azazel turned out to be a huge d***"
"Maybe it's time you finally told your side of the story. All of it." I put my fingers back over the keyboard.
Dave let off a smile. My fingers danced like never before, and I felt us both moving toward a resolution, at last.

Strategically, the GB should accept 587
by I Want to Believe inright now, the 587/607 is a major weak link; doctrines can be argued in circles for days, but the overwhelming evidence for 587 is damning to their entire theology, and it can be found with very little effort.
however, if they just bite the bullet and "new light" a 587 date for jerusalem's destruction it solves a lot of their problems:.
-removes their main weak secular point of argument.

@DesirousOfChange: First rule of warfare is to know your enemy as well you know yourself. But it's not hard to think like the writing department; it just takes imagination, since no actual facts are required.
@baltar447: They've done pretty quick turnarounds before. They even had a KM listing Gilead as a school and by the time the part was on the KMS it was already closed.

However, if they just bite the bullet and "new light" a 587 date for Jerusalem's destruction it solves a lot of their problems:
-Removes their main weak secular point of argument
-Pushes the start of the Kingdom to 1935, giving them another 20 years
-Lets "woe for Earth" make more sense: September 15, 1935 The Nuremberg Laws go into effect in Germany and other indications of Hitler's slow rise to power, vesus Satan being cast down to WWI already in progress.
-Lets them completely throw Russell under the bus, so it's harder to dispute being chosen by Jesus for their early teachings
-Would actually lend some foundational reason to say why the Earthly hope suddenly came up in 1935
Sure, they'd lose a few, but they're losing them now anyway. Not much of a long-term downside to it; I bet they'll have to do this eventually.

IF we erased all history... WHAT "truth" would emerge in time?
by AK - Jeff ini posit that if we put mankind into a state of suspended animation, erased his memory, and removed all traces of recorded human thinking over the ages, that given a few thousand years after his wake-up science and it's principles would have been rediscovered, reaffirmed.
all the sound principles would be once again discovered and leveraged into powerful technologies along lines similar to those we see today.
in other words, gravity, thermodynamics, astromony, magnetism, and physics of the universe would eventually be considered 'true', and verifible.

I Want to Believe
Very true. And which technologies developed first would determine what Gods emerged, gods of harvest and wine or new mainstream UFO and alien based religions. The only reason alien-based religions are looked down on now is because how new they are, but religion has always been based on humans' current understanding of the world, and if certain technologies developed first than UFO religions would be perfectly natural.

I Want to Believe
Season Finale, Hershel: "I know Jesus promised a resurrection of the dead... I just always thought he had something else in mind."
My wife actually gasped at that line and said under her breath "That would be so sick," as if all her questioning finally led her to the conclusion that such a misunderstanding of the Bible was actually possible. I took it as a good sign.
(and yes, we watched zombie shows even while still in)

In my cong. you had to go through the COBOE's family; his brother was also an elder, one of his sons was an elder who was married to the service overseers' daughter, his neice was married to another elder, whose father was another COBOE in town, whose father, in turn, was the substitute CO. His other two sons were also elders in other congs.
They were all very nice, not mob-like or anything, but congregation gatherings still felt like intruding in another family's party.

Revelation says the Beast is itself an 8th king. (Rev 17:11) The've been teaching that it's the UN for a while.
